At an elevation of 1220 m, the Mount Abu is the highest point of the Aravalli Ranges. Home of the Sage Vashisht, there is a interesting story behind the Mount Abu. Nandini, the wish-fulfilling cow of the sage fell into the lake. The gods of the Himalayas sent the cobra, Arbuda on the request of sage Vashisht. The cobra dropped a huge rock on to the lake, which displaced all the water thus saving Nandini. Since then, the place was known as Arbudachala or the Hill of Arbuda.

The Nakki Lake is the pivotal point of Mount Abu. There is a legend about that the lake was dug out by the gods using their nails or nakki and thus the lake go its name. The highest point of Rajasthan, Guru Sikhar is 15 km from mount Abu.

Mount Abu is famous for the Dilwara Jain Temples. The masterpieces of Jain architecture, the façade of the temple are simple but the interiors are elaborately done with carving on the white marble. Built between 11th and 13th century AD, the most remarkable among these are the Vimal Vashi Temple and Tejpal Temple. Adhar Devi Temple, 3 km from Mount Abu, is built in a natural crevice in a rock and is dedicated to Goddess Durga. 11 km from Mount Abu is Achalgarh famous for Achaleshwar temple dedicated to Lord Shiva.

The other places to visit in Mount Abu are the Brahma Kumaris Spiritual University 15 km and Museum and Mount Abu Wildlife Sanctuary 8 km from the town.
