Perched at an elevation of 2050 m above the sea level in the state of Himachal Pradesh, Manali is a small hill town spread all along the river Beas. Manali is at an approachable distance of 32 km from Kullu and 280 km from Shimla. Named after Sage Manu who meditated at this very place, Manali is ideal for seeking pleasure during the summer months when the entire northern plains are surrounded by the heat waves.
Although famous a hill station, Manali has several sacred shrines. Visit the Manu Temple, the only temple in India dedicated to Sage Manu. Manu is the first man on earth and creator of the human race according to Hindu mythology. On the left bank of the river Beas is the Arjuna Gufa very near the Pirni Village. Arjuna is said to have performed severe meditation to be awarded with the Pashupata weapon from Lord Indra. Maharaja Bahadur Singh built the Hadimba Temple also known as the Dhungri Temple in 1533. Dedicated to Hadimba, wife of Bhima, the temple is remarkable for three-tiered roof and exquisite wooden carvings. Built in sikhara style of architecture, Jagatsukh Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and Sandhya Gayatri and is 5 km from Manali.
Vashisht is a small village across the river Beas at a distance of 3 km from Manali. You will come across several temples dedicated to Lord Rama and sage Vashisht. The place is known for several sulphar water springs with therapeutic properties. People swarm the place to take bath in these hot water springs. Therefore, for their convenience, several bath places with Turkish showers are made at the spot.
16 km from Manali is the Rahala Waterfalls. The water falls from the height of 2,501 m and looks absolutely fabulous. The place is ideal to enjoy picnics with family and friends. Children enjoy the most in these places.
